New Organ

Using vintage pipework, Berghaus completed the new instrument for St. John Lutheran Church in May 2026.  A new console controls the 26-rank pipe organ that occupies the existing organ chamber in the renovated sanctuary.

Refurbishment of a 1927 Welte-Mignon Pipe Organ, Opus 232

Completed in February, 2026, Berghaus refurbushed the grand instrument that had been languishing in the chapel of this boarding school outside Milwaukee.  We built new electro-mechanical and electro-magnetic chests for the 15 ranks of original pipes, refurbished the vintage console with modern components, and cleaned the repaired pipes.  Final voicing will brings the organ back to its original glory.

Removal, Protection, and Cleaning of an 1869 Johnson organ

This large 1869 Johnson organ was electrified by Reuter in 1952 and further was renovated with a new console by Berghaus in 2011. Due to structural damage to the buildings walls surrounding the organ chamber, the entire historic casework and organ had to be removed in order for the building repairs to take place. After the building repairs were completed, the organ was finally returned “home” in late 2024.

In 2024, St. John and Berghaus began a project as part of a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the church.  A solid-state conversion and refurbishment of the console, new voices to complement the cleaned and repaired existing pipework and a new offset chest for the Great Trompete (allowing it to play from the Chor and Pedal) were completed in November 2025 and celebrated in January, 2026 with a dedicatory hymn festival.
