Leonard Berghaus, founder of the Berghaus Organ Company worked for many years as a gifted educator and organist. His decision to enter the organ-building field was influenced by his association with the Von Beckerath organ at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cleveland, Ohio, and by thoroughly restoring a ruined 1888 Jackson mechanical action organ at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Berghaus went on to receive comprehensive training in the art of organ building with an emphasis on tonal design, voicing, and the various forms of key and stop actions. The Berghaus Organ Company was formally established in 1967 and a passion for organ building has driven the company ever since.
Mr. Brian Berghaus brings a wealth of experience and an unwavering commitment to the art and process of modern organ building. Brian began his association with the company in 1987 under the tutelage of his father, Leonard Berghaus. As the President of Berghaus Organ Company, Brian works closely with the companys artisans to insure that the clients and the companys highest expectations are met. Brians efforts are also directed toward the task of attracting, inspiring and retaining extraordinarily talented employees. The results of these efforts can be seen in the context of the companys continued expansion and in the overwhelmingly positive reactions from a growing list of influential clients. Brian is pleased to note that Berghaus Organ Company is well positioned for its ongoing role as a leader in the pipe organ industry. Brians three children, Nicholas, Timothy and Sabrina are all being prepared for future roles in the company.
The Berghaus Organ Company has grown to become a leader in the design and execution of fine liturgical and performance based pipe organs. Under the direction of Brian Berghaus, the company continues to explore the definition and the role of the pipe organ and maintains its commitment to building instruments that define the state of the art.
Artistry is an integral part of the Berghaus philosophy. As such, Berghaus organs are designed as aural and visual masterpieces. Each instrument must be exciting to both the ear and the eye. To achieve a successful instrument, sets of pipes, (called ranks), are carefully combined to function within the framework of the tonal design and to work in harmony with the size and acoustics of the space. Craftsmanship is at the heart of all great pipe organs. Artisans at Berghaus are deeply committed to their work and pay close attention to the smallest of details. To support their commitment, the Berghaus Company maintains active membership in several trade organizations including; The Associated Pipe Organ Builders of America, The American Institute of Organ Builders, The International Society of Organ Builders, The Organ Historical Society and The American Guild of Organists. Each client can be assured that the Berghaus Company incorporates the highest construction standards and the finest materials into every pipe organ it builds.
Establishing a collaborative relationship with each client is a priority. The Berghaus Organ Company does not offer pre-engineered designs. Instead, we work closely with our clients to create a custom instrument that responds perfectly to the environment at hand. The goal is simple; provide an outstanding instrument that becomes an organic part of the room in which it stands. While Berghaus organs live in harmony with their surroundings, theyre also seen as the jewel that completes the room.
